Amy J. Serpe’s career working within the disability field began in 1980 with an emphasis in program planning and implementation for children, adults, educators and people with disabilities. Employment includes work in the areas of rehabilitation teaching for people who are blind or visually impaired, disability awareness education and training and ADA compliance.

Ms. Serpe has held managerial positions at the:

  • City of Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities​
     

  • Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services
     

  • Chicago Public Schools
     

  • VSA Arts of Chicago
     

  • Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital and Care Network

 

Throughout her profession, Ms. Serpe has created a variety of training materials and has lectured to audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Emphasizing the inclusion of people with disabilities in mainstream society, topics have included equal access to employment, inclusive education, housing, transportation, independent living and the arts, as well as compliance with disability-related laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

In November 2021, Ms. Serpe formed Serpe Solutions, Inc., continuing her advocacy work within the disability field.
